Stanley U. Nweke-Eze

Legal and Policy Advisor

Stanley U. Nweke-Eze is a legal and policy advisor with IISD’s Economic Law and Policy Program, where he works primarily with the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF). 

He is a lawyer admitted in Nigeria, New York, and England & Wales, with over a decade of experience in international dispute settlement—including investorstate and commercial arbitration—and transaction advisory across different jurisdictions and industry sectors, such as energy, finance, and mining. 

He provides technical assistance to governments on strengthening legal and policy frameworks for the governance of sustainable mining investment. His work spans environmental and social impact assessment regimes in mining, sustainable development standards, and the development, review and implementation of mining laws and policies. 

Stanley holds a PhD in international investment law from the University of Hong Kong, an LLM in international economic law from Harvard Law School, a second LLM in commercial law from the University of Cambridge, and a first-class LLB from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nigeria. He speaks English and Igbo.
