Ekpen Omonbude

Senior Policy Advisor

Ekpen Omonbude is a Senior Policy Advisor with IISD’s Economic Law and Policy Program, working with the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF). His work focuses on the IGF’s Global Mining Tax Initiative.

Ekpen is a trained economist specializing in the energy and extractives sector, with more than 15 years of providing advice and expertise in various roles. Before joining IISD, he held positions with the Commonwealth Secretariat, as well as in academia and industry.

Ekpen holds a doctorate in petroleum policy and economics and a master's in energy studies, both from the University of Dundee, Scotland. He also has a master's of business administration from the University of Abertay, Scotland, and a bachelor’s of science in economics and statistics from the University of Benin, Nigeria.

Ekpen is based in the United Kingdom.
