Alexandra Readhead
Director, Tax and Sovereign Debt
Alexandra Readhead leads IISD's Tax and Sovereign Debt Program. Her work focuses on strengthening policies and enhancing capacities to enable governments to increase tax revenues and use debt sustainably to fund their development and climate priorities. She provides legal and technical assistance to tax authorities, finance ministries, and investment agencies in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
Alexandra is a trained lawyer specializing in international tax and mining taxation. Prior to establishing IISD’s Tax and Sovereign Debt Program, Alexandra built and led the Global Mining Tax Initiative, which supports resource-rich developing countries in strengthening revenue collection from the mining sector. She is the co-author of the book The Future of Resource Taxation: 10 Policy Ideas to Mobilize Mining Revenues.
Alexandra is also a Visiting Fellow of Practice at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford, where she is Programme Co-Chair of the Executive Course on Mining, Oil, and Gas Governance. She is also a member of the UN Subcommittee on Extractive Industry Taxation, and the International Senior Lawyers Project’s Tax Advisory Board. Alexandra holds a Bachelor of Laws from Monash University and a Master of Public Policy from the University of Oxford.
