UNCCD COP 17 Media Briefing by Earth Negotiations Bulletin
Earth Negotiations Bulletin will provide an "on background" media briefing on key issues to watch at UNCCD COP 17 in Mongolia.
Land degradation is already affecting up to 40% of the world’s land, with far-reaching impacts on food production, water availability, livelihoods and economic stability. Droughts are increasing in frequency and severity, exacerbated by climate change and unsustainable land management.
At upcoming negotiations for the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), countries will attempt to advance a coordinated response to accelerating desertification, drought and land degradation—while coping with increasingly fragmented geopolitical relations.
Earth Negotiations Bulletin (ENB) has provided independent, neutral coverage of multilateral environmental negotiations since 1992, including the inception and lifespan of the UNCCD. ENB is pleased to deliver a concise “on background’ media briefing for journalists covering UNCCD COP 17 or land issues in their region. Dr. Pamela Chasek (Co-founder and Executive Editor, ENB) will provide a 30-minute overview of key issues to watch for in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia before taking journalist questions.
