Presentation de l’étude de l’IIDD sur les marchés biologiques – Opportunités pour le Madagascar

November 8, 2024 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

(By invitation)

In November 2024, IISD hosted a webinar in collaboration with the Madagascar Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MINAE) and the Organic Malagasy National Union (SYMABIO) to present key findings from the report Perspectives of Organic Agriculture in Madagascar: Global Analysis and Regional Opportunities.

The French-language webinar offered insights into trends in Madagascar’s organic production and exports. It also positioned Madagascar within the broader African context, providing a comparative analysis of how the country differs from its regional peers.

A key focus of the presentation was Madagascar’s organic export chains, particularly to two major regions:

  • European Union, with an emphasis on Madagascar’s primary export markets— France and Germany
  • North America, covering export and consumption trends to the United States and Canada.

IISD also examined international market dynamics in the organic sector, including emerging trends, growth trajectories, and challenges in key markets across both Europe and North America. The discussion highlighted opportunities for Malagasy exporters and addressed the evolving regulatory landscape, offering recommendations to local actors for navigating international organic standards in key importing regions.

The webinar also explored organic production and consumption trends in regional markets in South Africa and East Africa, shedding light on distribution patterns, market trends, and food for thought on potential opportunities for expanding intra-regional commerce of organic products.

The event brought together key government officials, representatives from international and development organizations, trade professionals, organic producers, and exporters.
