Inside the World Trade Organization Public Forum 2026
The World Trade Organization (WTO) Public Forum 2026 brings together participants from government, business, civil society, academia, and the media to explore how services trade can drive development, income, and job creation worldwide, under the theme "Powering the Future." For the first time, IISD is co-organizing the forum, alongside the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). Our trade experts will organize and participate in sessions throughout the week, contributing insights on the future of trade cooperation, industrial policy, fisheries subsidies, digital trade, and more.
About the Event
The WTO Public Forum is taking place from September 15 to 17, 2026, in Geneva, Switzerland. The WTO’s flagship outreach event draws more than 2,000 participants from government, business, civil society, academia, and the media each year. For the first time, IISD is co-organizing the forum alongside the ICC, bringing a sustainability perspective to the heart of the world’s largest trade dialogue.
Trade policy shapes what the world produces, how it is produced, and who benefits, and the discussions held at the forum influence how officials and stakeholders engage with it. IISD's mission this year is to keep environmental protection and equity at the centre of that conversation, with sessions on the future of trade cooperation, industrial policy, fisheries subsidies, digital trade, and more.
This year’s theme, "Powering the Future," puts services in the spotlight: the source of over half the world’s jobs and a growing share of global trade. Sessions across the 3 days will examine how digital transformation, services trade, and trade rules can drive development, income, and job creation worldwide, particularly for women and young people, while keeping sustainability and inclusion at the heart of that future.
Please note that you must be registered for the WTO Public Forum to attend. You can watch all livestreamed sessions here.
