IISD-ELA Fall Feast 2016
IISD-ELA was pleased to welcome members of local aboriginal communities for a day of discussion, celebration and feasting!
On August 31, 2016, IISD Experimental Lakes Area (IISD-ELA) welcomed members of local aboriginal communities for a day of discussion, celebration and feasting!
After arrival, groups were given a tour of the research facility and introduced to some of the science that takes place at the site around the year. That was followed by an Elder Youth Dialogue, where members of all communities came together to learn about certain aspects of Anishinaabe culture, enjoy music from the Whitefish Bay Singers, and open up discussions about changing relationships with the land and water to bring First Nations perspectives into IISD-ELA research. The day was concluded with a Water Ceremony, a Prayer and then the Fall Feast itself.
The annual Fall Feast is part of a larger program of aboriginal engagement at IISD-ELA.
