North American Energy Integration Partnership
Reaping the full economic benefits of integrating North American fossil fuel and renewable energy and electricity markets while protecting the local and global environment will require reform and harmonization of policies and regulatory structures affecting energy within the United States, Mexico and Canada.
With this in mind, Resources for the Future in the United States, Centro Mario Molina in Mexico and IISD in Canada have formed the North American Energy Integration Partnership (NAEI Partnership). This research and policy collaboration will identify opportunities for the development of innovative and coordinated government policies that could lower trade barriers and enhance sustainability in both the fossil fuel energy and electricity sectors. The partners have reviewed critical regulations related to the potential tri-national coordination of oil and gas markets. The review process also included the development of over 60 policy briefs focused on individual national and subnational environmental regulations in each country, related to oil and gas extraction and transport, oil refining and energy demand.
