Dayron Monroy
Policy Advisor
Dayron Monroy is a policy advisor supporting the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF) within IISD's Economic Law and Policy program.
He has over 6 years of experience specializing in artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM), mining governance, and sustainable mineral supply chains in Latin America and the Caribbean. Prior to joining IISD, Dayron served as the Head of Standards and Certifications at the Alliance for Responsible Mining, where he worked with governments, companies, and communities to develop evidence-informed policy solutions that advance ASM formalization and strengthen links to certified minerals markets.
He has also worked as a consultant on ASM for the United Nations Development Programme in Ecuador, a junior researcher at the Ideas for Peace Foundation, and a research assistant at Duke University and Universidad de los Andes. Across Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru, he led field research and generated empirical evidence on mercury-reduction interventions and informed the design of market-based incentives to improve environmental performance and due diligence in mineral supply chains.
Dayron holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia.
Based in Colombia, Dayron speaks native Spanish, fluent English, and basic Portuguese.
