Yaounde Trade Hub 2026

Amid a turbulent global trade environment, MC14 put the multilateral trading system’s relevance and resolve to the test.

The World Trade Organization’s (WTO’s) 14th Ministerial Conference (MC14) took place from March 26 to 29 in Yaoundé, Cameroon. This ministerial was judged not on the basis of new outcomes, but on governments’ ability to reinforce the value of a rules-based system and to renew political momentum behind ongoing priorities. With key issues like agriculture, fisheries subsidies, and e-commerce still unresolved, MC14 challenged members’ ability to consolidate implementation of recent agreements, advance negotiations on outstanding mandates, and provide political direction for institutional reform so the WTO remains credible and relevant in a fragmented global economy.

As geopolitical tensions rise, technology transforms markets, and the Global South presses for trade rules that support sustainability and development, MC14 revealed whether the WTO can act as a forum for cooperation.
