Trade and trade policy are central to transforming our world, the objective of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

With the substance of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Addis Ababa Action Agenda (AAAA) finalised, policy-making attention has now turned to implementation and to how progress against these important commitments made will be measured and reviewed.

This event organized by the International Center for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) and the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) will be the first in a series of policy dialogues exploring the role of the trade system in supporting the 2030 Agenda.

The first part of the event will provide an update from New York on the state of play on the 2030 Agenda, and in particular the negotiations around the Agenda’s follow-up and review mechanisms. It will also include the presentation of a policy brief published jointly by ICTSD and IISD that discusses options for follow-up and review of the trade elements of the Agenda.

The second part of the event will consist of an interactive panel discussion that will explore the potential role of the trade system in supporting the 2030 Agenda, in particular in light of developing countries’ interests, and how any potential areas of policy incoherence could be resolved.

Date and time: June 3, 2016 at 14:00. A light lunch will be served from 13:00,
