Geneva, Switzerland

To commemorate the launch of the new SDG Knowledge Hub, IISD will host a panel discussion on the role of knowledge management in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Wednesday, October 26th, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm, International Environment House II, 9 Chemin de Balexert, 1219 Châtelaine.

Consolidating Knowledge for SDG Implementation: Is a 'one-stop-shop' possible?

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development will serve as the over-riding framework for domestic and international development over the next fourteen years. If the global community is to achieve the Agenda’s ambitious SDGs, transformative approaches will have to be developed for every aspect of the implementation challenge.

These transformations will need to extend from high-level governance decision-making to local level efforts, and should include the ways that we gather and present knowledge as well as actions taken in pursuit of the 17 SDGs. During the negotiation of the SDGs, some countries called for creating a “dashboard” for tracking information about SDG implementation, but is this possible given the complex and contextually-specific nature of national level action and solutions? This panel will feature 4 leading experts on SDG Implementation who will explore unique approaches to knowledge management and discuss how UN Agencies, intergovernmental organizations, civil society and academia can best provide the knowledge that the international community needs to implement and track SDG progress.

Panel:

Opening Remarks: Scott Vaughan, President & CEO, International Institute for Sustainable Development
Moderator: Mark Halle, Executive Director, IISD Europe
Paul Ladd, Director, United Nations Research Institute for Social Development
Cecilia Cannon, Head of Research, Programme for the Study of International Governance, The Graduate Institute
Elena Proden, Specialist on Capacity for the 2030 Agenda, United Nations Institute for Training and Research

Light refreshments will be served afterwards.

About the SDG Knowledge Hub

IISD recently launched the SDG Knowledge Hub, which is a freely available, online resource that brings IISD’s expertise in raising the transparency of sustainable development decision making to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDG Knowledge Hub consolidates IISD’s nine Policy & Practice knowledgebases, and the tens of thousands of articles that we have published within them since 2008, into a single entry point: http://sdg.iisd.org/.
