COP-22 and the Canadian Context
Experts will examine COP outcomes and expectations, and the important role that Canada plays in the international climate change negotiations.
Last December in Paris a landmark climate change agreement was reached at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) 21st Conference of the Parties (COP-21).
Countries committed to an agreement that is universally applicable, dynamic and durable, requiring regular review and increased ambition; however much of the specifics are still to be decided.
While the Agreement’s rapid entry into force demonstrates the global commitment to implement it, many substantive decisions will need to be made at the COP-22 in Marrakesh to start developing the rule book to operationalize the Agreement.
At this event, experts will examine COP outcomes and expectations, and the important role that Canada plays in the international climate change negotiations. Speakers will include representatives from the Canadian federal and provincial governments, IISD, IDRC, IETA and other stakeholders.
