This workshop is being held in Bangkok, Thailand, from July 30-31, 2019, with the objective of discussing how to put the action plan for the ASEAN Guidelines for Responsible Investment in Food, Agriculture and Forestry into practice.
The workshop is being organized by the ASEAN Secretariat, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Grow Asia, IISD, and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. The topics for discussion include the background of the guidelines; climate change action in the context of these guidelines; investments within the ASEAN countries; contract farming; and developing institutional capacity in the region.
The Guidelines were adopted in October 2018 by ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry (AMAF) and were prepared with the objective of ensuring that “investments in agriculture meet global standards and promote responsible and sustainable development.” They are tailored to the ASEAN context, both as a group and individually, and are grounded in the Committee on World Food Security's Principles for Responsible Agriculture and Food Systems (CFS-RAI).
Further details about the ASEAN Guidelines can be found at our dedicated IISD page, as well as on a separate site devoted exclusively to the Guidelines.
