New poll finds Manitobans want boreal forest protected

"A new poll suggests most Manitobans favour conservation of the province's boreal forest. The poll, done by Probe Research for the International Institute for Sustainable Development, showed 88% of Manitobans believe at least half of the boreal should be protected, with 55% saying the level of protection should be even greater. That view is consistent across party lines, the poll found."

“There are numerous examples of subsidy reforms that have gone badly,” says Damon Vis-Dunbar, former programme manager at the International Institute for Sustainable Development, a think-tank. “In recent years we have seen significant social unrest in countries like Sudan, Nigeria and Yemen in response to steep increases in fuel prices. That unrest has forced governments to backtrack on reforms.”
