Sustainable Value Chain Policy Navigator
An interactive dashboard that maps out promising policies and measures aiming to advance sustainability and inclusion in value chains.
The Sustainable Value Chain Policy Navigator maps out policies and regulatory measures that advance sustainability objectives in commodity production, directly or indirectly supporting producers who comply with sustainability standards and voluntary and mandatory market access requirements. Its main aim is to inform and inspire governments designing similar policies and measures in their own jurisdictions. By highlighting practical experiences, lessons learned, and evidence of impact, the navigator seeks to promote more inclusive and resilient value chains, support compliance readiness, and reduce transaction costs for producers and businesses.
What is included in the dashboard
The dashboard focuses on active, relevant policies and measures being implemented by producing countries in the Global South with the strongest potential to improve sustainability across commodity production in the agriculture, food, forestry, and textile sectors. Policies were selected using a structured methodology that prioritized active measures that
- address key sustainability challenges, including deforestation, biodiversity loss, soil degradation, climate impacts, and social inclusion, and
- support market participation among vulnerable groups, such as women and small-scale producers and businesses.
For each measure included in the dashboard, you can find descriptive information such as the type of measure, where it is implemented, which sector it covers, and its delivery status. Most importantly, the tool also highlights evidence of impact, lessons learned, and examples of relevant voluntary sustainability standards (VSSs) that can contribute to the objectives of the policy measure.
How to use the dashboard
You can browse policies and measures by location using the map view or by exploring the complete list of measures in table format. Toggle between the two views using the buttons in the top-right corner of the dashboard.
In the map view, you can hover over countries to see the total number of measures from that country included in the dashboard and what sectors they cover. Click on the country to access a list of measures implemented in your selected country. Select the measure you are interested in to see the full breakdown of information.
In the list view, you can click the compare button to the right of each measure, followed by the compare button on the left-hand side of the dashboard, to compare up to three measures on the screen at once. You can select the information you want to compare by clicking on the categories listed on the left.
In both views, the filter tool on the left allows you to narrow down your search according to the issue area, sector, type of measure, or country you are interested in. You also have the option to click "export" to receive a PDF version of an individual measure or comparison of measures. The button will prompt you to fill out your name, email address, and organization, and we will get back to you.
