Learning Beyond GDP
As the push intensifies for countries to go "beyond GDP" when measuring progress and building more sustainable public policies, IISD and partners have launched an e-course to explore GDP alternatives.
Despite the dominance of GDP in political and public discourse on how well countries are performing, alternative metrics exist that better gauge human well-being, happiness, and sustainability. This free e-course (available in English, French, and Spanish) delivers four modules that introduce the limitations of GDP, provide overviews of alternative and complementary measures to GDP, and take an in-depth dive into the Comprehensive Wealth Index components and their policy implications.
This self-paced course should take about 4 hours to complete, guiding learners through the content with interactive questions and scenarios.
Module 1: What's wrong with GDP?
Module 2: Alternatives in moving beyond GDP
Module 3: Measuring comprehensive wealth: The five types of capital
Module 4: How to measure and apply comprehensive wealth
