Veena Jha

Associate

Dr. Veena Jha is an economist with decades of experience advising governments and international organizations on trade and development issues.

Veena is currently the director of Maguru Consultants Limited and joined IISD as an Associate in 2017.

In this role, she works with think tanks and universities across the globe to provide guidance and expert knowledge. Her first substantive paper with IISD was on Renegotiating NFTA: the Pros and Cons for Canada.   

Veena has extensive economic, policy, and training experience in the area of international trade, investment, sustainable development, energy economics, regional trade agreements, and development issues.

She is the author of over a dozen books and scores of papers and has taught at the University of Oxford, Delhi University and the University of Warwick.

Veena spent more than 15 years working for the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, including as coordinator of UNCTAD’s India program. She has also worked with the European Union and agencies such as: World Health Organization; United Nations Environment Programme; International Labour Organization: United Nations Research Institute for Social Development and  International Center for Trade and Sustainable Development.

She is based in Geneva and India, and is fluent in English, Hindi, Bengali and French.
