Sara Olsvig

Sara Olsvig (PhD) is an Inuk leader and a dedicated defender of Indigenous Peoples’ rights and human rights.
Sara has extensive experience in politics and international advocacy, including roles as chair, Inuit Circumpolar Council, 2022–2026; member of Parliament, Denmark, 2011–2015; member of Parliament, Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenland), 2013–2018; and vice-premier and minister for social affairs, families, gender equality, and justice, 2016–2018. As a parliamentarian, Sara also served as chair of the Arctic Parliamentarians Committee. She has contributed actively to the work of Greenland’s Constitutional Commission and the Greenland Human Rights Council, was a member of the UN Secretary-General’s Panel on Critical Energy Transition Minerals in 2024, and was a recipient of the 2023 Womenomics Inclusion Award.
Sara holds a master’s degree in science (anthropology) from the University of Copenhagen and a Doctor of Philosophy in Arctic studies from Ilisimatusarfik (University of Greenland).
She currently resides in Nuuk with her partner and their children.
