Josef Ostřanský

Senior Policy Advisor, Sustainable Investment

Josef Ostřanský is a Senior Policy Advisor, Sustainable Investment, in the Economic Law and Policy Program.

Josef has many years of experience in the investment field and specializes in investor–state dispute settlement. Prior to IISD, Josef was a legal consultant for the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development in the International Investment Agreements Section. He was also previously a lecturer at the Geneva LL.M. in International Dispute Settlement (MIDS), visiting fellow at Pontifical Catholic University Rio de Janeiro, the Australian National University, and Max Weber Fellow at the European University Institute in Italy.

He is one of the founding members of the Academic Forum on Investor–State Dispute Settlement in the UNCITRAL Working Group III.

Josef holds a PhD in international law from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, Switzerland.

Based in Geneva, Josef is fluent in English, French, and Czech, and is conversational in Spanish
