Aidan Guttormson

Field Technician, IISD-ELA

Aidan Guttormson is a Field Technician with IISD Experimental Lakes Area.

As part of his graduate work, he conducted a 4-month field study at IISD-ELA on optimizing plant species composition and nutrient additions to enhance floating wetland remediation of freshwater oil spills. This involved collecting and analyzing over 1,300 samples for oil and nutrient chemistry, microbial activity and metagenomics, and plant health from 26 mesocosms. Aidan managed the day-to-day field operations, delegation of tasks to student research assistants, and coordination of research activities with the IISD-ELA toxicology group.

He holds a Bachelor of Engineering from McGill University and is currently working towards a Master of Science in Biosystems Engineering at the University of Manitoba.
