New Zealand Inventory 2025

After careful consideration of the range of international approaches to inventory development, New Zealand considers continued use of the OECD Inventory of New Zealand Fossil Fuel Support Measures (the Inventory) the most suitable approach.

The OECD Inventory of support measures presents a full and transparent account of fossil fuel support measures in New Zealand over time. The Inventory provides a well-established, long-running, and internationally recognized information base on fossil fuel support measures, to which New Zealand has contributed for over 10 years. The Inventory uses a comprehensive definition of fossil fuels, referring broadly to “coal, oil, natural gas, and other petroleum products used for energy production and consumption”, and distinguishes between subsidies/support measures for consumption and production of fossil fuels, and general [fossil-fuel related] services support. The Inventory is updated annually with each update verified by the Government of New Zealand.
