Sean Woolfrey

Lead, Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems

Sean Woolfrey leads IISD's work on sustainable agriculture and food systems within the Economic Law and Policy Program. He contributes to the team’s work to change rules and policies on food, agriculture, trade, and investment.

Before joining IISD, Sean served in various capacities with the European Centre for Development Policy Management’s Sustainable Food Systems Programme in Maastricht, the Netherlands. He produced research and analysis, facilitated dialogues and partnerships, and worked with policy-makers and other stakeholders in Europe and Africa to promote transitions to more inclusive, sustainable, and resilient food systems in Africa and globally. Prior to that, Sean worked as a researcher for the Trade Law Centre (Tralac) in Stellenbosch, South Africa.

Sean holds a master’s degree in international relations from the University of Cape Town, a master’s degree in development studies from the University of Cambridge, and a bachelor’s degree in politics, philosophy, and economics from the University of Cape Town.

Sean is based in the United Kingdom and is fluent in English.
