Jose Luis Rodriguez Gil

Jose Luis Rodriguez Gil is an ecotoxicologist and risk assessor with over a decade of experience conducting ecological-level studies with a variety of compounds that include pesticides, pharmaceuticals and oil.
He is currently a Research Associate at the Department of Environment and Geography at the University of Manitoba and conducting research at IISD Experimental Lakes Area.
Jose Luis is working within a larger team trying to fill in current data gaps on the fate and effects of a potential spill of diluted bitumen (unconventional oil) into boreal fresh water ecosystems. He is also working on the exploring the impact on Venlafaxine—a commonly prescribed anti-depressant—on all levels of an ecosystem when it reaches a lake after having been excreted out by humans.
