Scaling Up Adaptation: Strengthening alignment of the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) process and the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) in Grenada
This workshop aims to enhance the overall understanding of potential linkages and alignment between the NAP process and adaptation in the NDC.
On January 31 and February 1, the NAP Global Network and the Grenadian Ministry of Climate Resilience, the Environment, Forestry, Disaster Management and Information in collaboration with the Integrated Climate Change Adaptation Strategies (ICCAS) program, will co-host the workshop “Scaling Up Adaptation: Strengthening alignment of the NAP process and the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) in Grenada.”
The event will bring together government representatives and stakeholders who are involved in advancing the NAP process and the country’s NDC. The workshop aims to enhance the overall understanding of potential linkages and alignment between the NAP process and adaptation in the NDC.
NDCs and NAP processes represent essential elements of countries’ responses to climate change under the Paris Agreement. Both processes have different but complementary objectives. NDCs aim to communicate to the international community a country’s high-level vision and goals on climate change. NAPs are domestic planning processes that allow countries to identify, address and review their adaptation needs, enabling decision-makers to start and advance implementation of concrete adaptation measures.
Although many states have included commitments to adaptation in their NDCs, the links between the two are not always clear. For Grenada, exploring how to align objectives between the NAP process and NDC is essential to gaining an understanding of current challenges, strengths and weaknesses in its national response to climate change. This process will help the country identify potential entry points and key actions for next steps.
