IISD Opens Geneva Office, September 2000
WINNIPEG — The International Institute for Sustainable Development formally inaugurates its European Offices on September 14, 2000. IISD's new Geneva office extends our global presence and increases our ability to access to key European decision makers. The latest national inventory report shows that greenhouse gas emissions in Canada's oil and gas sector are still rising, now accounting for 31 per cent of the country's total. While emissions in the rest of the economy have fallen by 13 per cent since 2005, emissions from oil and gas production have gone up by 11 per cent. The data leaves no doubt that more must be done to address emissions from our highest emitting sector if we hope to reach the national target of 40-45 per cent emissions reduction by 2030.
