The Training Workshop on Trade, Biodiversity and Sustainable Development will lead to a series of outputs and outcomes to support the achievement of the workshop’s goals and objectives.
Outputs

a compilation of basic training materials, including primary materials and secondary references on trade and environment with an emphasis on trade, biodiversity conservation and sustainable development;

proceedings of the workshop, which will be published and distributed nationally; and
-
a proposal for adapting the training in China and delivering it in other Asian countries.
Outcomes
-
initiation of a dialogue among government officials, academics and representatives of the private sector on the interaction of trade and environment with an emphasis on trade, biodiversity conservation and sustainable development;

enhanced individual and institutional awareness of the environmental challenges related to trade in biological resources;
-
enhanced individual and institutional awareness of issues involved in developing proactive positions for formulating WTO rules governing the relationship between trade, biodiversity conservation and sustainable development, and for facilitating the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity and its Protocol on Biosafety;
-
increased local and national support for integrating trade, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development policies at provincial and national levels; and
-
strengthened capacity in China for participating in WTO negotiations and contributing to the development of WTO rules governing trade in biological resources.
