What can we do about increased plastic use during the pandemic?
“Takeout containers become my Tupperware and a Ziplock bag in my house has a lifespan of like three years,” says Michael Rennie, associate professor at Lakehead University and research fellow with the International Institute for Sustainable Development Experimental Lakes Area. “A lot of people use grocery store bags picking up pet waste, too, but all of those ultimately go in the trash, so we need to think about reusing these items that we get that are maybe marketed as single-use more times than just twice to really get a benefit from it.”
