About this lake

The classic view of Lake 240’s island is from the dock. Lake 240’s beautiful beach is a big part of the fun: it is a favourite location for swimming, and we play volleyball along its shores. Its role as part of everyday life at the facility makes it a truly remarkable place.

Lake 240 has been a reference lake for many of our studies, including much of the mercury research in the 1990s. The IISD-ELA fish program continues to collect fish muscle biopsies annually from this lake as a reference for the METALLICUS Project.
