Ronja Bechauf is a Policy Analyst with IISD’s Economic Law and Policy Program. She works with the Infrastructure and Finance team to demonstrate the track record of sustainable infrastructure.
Ronja applies the Sustainable Asset Valuation (SAVi) methodology to help policy-makers make informed infrastructure decisions. She also helps public and private entities create suitable governance arrangements and planning processes for nature-based infrastructure. In addition, Ronja conducts research and engages with procurement stakeholders to integrate sustainability considerations into public procurement processes.
Ronja previously supported the team as a Policy Consultant. She has produced content for the Sustainable Recovery 2020 campaign, written about nature-based infrastructure, and prepared a policy brief on sustainable infrastructure in Indonesia. While participating in the Carlo Schmid Fellowship program, she supported various systemic assessments of infrastructure projects. She also worked with the Global Subsidies Initiative team to research and write about efforts to reform fossil fuel subsidies.
Prior to her experience with IISD, Ronja worked as a Project Assistant at TU Dortmund University, where she conducted research and GIS analysis, and designed maps and publications.
Ronja holds a master’s degree in environmental and infrastructure planning from the University of Groningen and a bachelor’s degree in urban planning from TU Dortmund University. Ronja is based in Germany. She speaks English, German, and Spanish.
