In collaboration with the Centre for Environmental Rights and with the support of the Heinrich Böll Foundation, we will develop SAVi assessments for the Thabametsi coal power plant and for the Mabola mining project in South Africa. The Thabametsi assessment will include a comparison with other energy technologies. It will provide an analysis of the financial viability of the project under climate-stress scenarios and include a valuation of social and environmental externalities. The Mabola assessment will look at the financial impact of the Mabola mine, including the costs of social and environmental externalities. Both assessments will make use of customized SAVi models with locally sourced data.
