The World Trade Organization's Sixth Annual Public Forum will bring together representatives from governments, parliaments, civil society, the business sector and the media to ponder the theme What WTO for the 21st Century? The Forum will feature an opening plenary session, followed by working panels that will address the existing imbalances in the multilateral trading system. Time will be set aside for governments, parliamentarians and civil society to organize their own events on issues of their choice. On Tuesday, 26 September, from 11:30 - 13:00, there will be a session devoted to the topic of "Subsidies and International Trade", organized by the WTO's Economic Research and Statistics Division. It will feature presentations by the WTO Secretariat on its World Trade Report 2006 (which focuses on subsidies), and the Global Subsidies Initiative on its current and planned work programme.
