The resource handbook is the first output of this project and is intended to provide an overview on environmental assessment and be a helpful resource for communities. The document was developed based on needs identified by community leaders and resource personnel. The goal of the resource handbook is to improve basic understandings of environmental assessment, identify how communities can be involved and where resources can be accessed. Published in July 2008.

The International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) was contracted by the Prince Albert Model Forest (PAMF) to develop a resource handbook to help build the capacity and improve the overall understanding of environmental assessment in Saskatchewan's First Nations communities. In order to ensure that the final product met the needs of the communities, IISD consulted with the PAMF Aboriginal Caucus prior to the development of the manual to assess current environmental assessment capacity needs and interests. A preliminary version of the resource handbook was presented to the Aboriginal Caucus during the Environmental Assessment Overview Training workshop delivered by IISD in Prince Albert Saskatchewan on June 24, 2008. Based on the inputs from the participants in attendance, the handbook was revised and is now online.
