Towards Sustainable Development Reporting in Saskatchewan

Background Research on State-of-the-Art Sustainability Reporting

The Green Policy and Integrated Environmental Monitoring Sections of Saskatchewan Environment contracted IISD to conduct background research in support of a provincial sustainability and state-of-the-environment reporting processes that Saskatchewan Environment could begin leading in 2006.

The research report presents a range of case studies that feature provincial and state-level sustainability or quality-of-life reporting systems, and other related aspects that provide useful insights into the process and content of reporting efforts.

The report also features preliminary draft content of a Resource Book on Integrated Environmental Assessment and Reporting that IISD is coordinating the development of on behalf of the Global Environment Outlook mandate of the United Nations Environment Program. The various modules in the draft Resource Book provide useful insight into the process and analytical frameworks for creating state-of-the-environment reports characterized by the integrated analysis of environmental trends and retrospective and forward looking policy analysis.
