The ACA Project seeks to strengthen capacity for environmental and sustainable development management in the Americas, by identifying hemispheric gaps and priorities for ESD capacity and institution building, increasing awareness of ESD issues among policy-makers in the Americas, and engaging LAC civil society and government partners.
This can be done through the realization of several objectives over a two-year period:
Through gap analysis and priority setting, the ACA Project partners will develop hemispheric civil society recommendations for new ESD capacity development initiatives and institutions. This work will help to identify the opportunities and forms for new environmental cooperation mechanisms within or parallel to the FTAA.
Through a sustained engagement strategy, the ACA Project will develop new networks and partnerships between environmental policy-makers in governments, civil society and business, and build strategic alliances with potential institutional partners in social and economic sectors.
Depending on available funds, through joint analysis and sub-regional workshops, the ACA Project hopes to identify optimal activities for hemispheric ESD capacity development and programming, for consideration by national decision-makers in the design of their HCP strategies and other program.
New assessment methodologies will be developed and tested through the course of the project, and will be made available to decision-makers as useful policy tools.
Depending on the commitment of funds, new ESD capacity development materials on hemispheric or sub-regional ESD issues will be designed and made available on the Web and disseminated to a broad database of actors who can use them. These will provide instruments for future national and regional decision-makers, IGOs and other trainers to strengthen ESD management activities.
