The Green Budget Opportunities in India program is part of the TERI-Canada Energy Efficiency Project undertaken with our partner, The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in India. The TERI-Canada project was launched in 1999 with the objective of analyzing market-based, fiscal and regulatory approaches to promote energy efficiency and conservation. Full details can be found at the TERI-Canada project web site. The project is supported by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).
The objectives of this program are to provide annual budget recommendations to the Government of India and to conduct post-budget analysis of the Union Budget. Each year, TERI undertakes a process towards evolving sectoral green budget recommendations in consultation with stakeholders that are presented to the Finance Minister of India. These recommendations essentially relate to energy generation or use in India. TERI also performs an analysis of the Union Budget once it is released early in the calendar year. This has been an ongoing exercise since the start of the project.
