August 25 to 27, 2004 | Santiago, Chile
In August 2004, the Government of Chile hosted an international workshop to share results from a project exploring the application of the Clean Development Mechanism to the transportation sector in Santiago. The primary goal of the workshop was to bring members of the transport, development and climate change communities together to advance the discussion of the fit between the CDM and the transport sector. The workshop focused on:
-
bringing international experience and expertise to bear on the cutting edge analysis currently being conducted as part of the transport and CDM project in Chile;
-
furthering discussion on limitations of the current CDM rules, and what types of creative solutions might better facilitate sustainable transport initiatives; and
-
providing constructive suggestions to policy-makers and transport planners on how to incorporate emission reductions considerations into transportation planning.
The first day of the event was devoted to exploring the outcomes of the project to date, and emphasized the sharing of knowledge and capacity building between Chilean government representatives and other local stakeholders. The remaining two days provided an opportunity to explore projects being undertaken in other developing countries and the implications of their findings for the CDM.
Presentations made during the three days of the workshop are listed below.
