The Province of Manitoba is recognized nationally and internationally as a leader in promoting actions that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and advance the establishment of a new, low-carbon economy. IISD has been active is supporting the province's efforts to develop innovative policy and approaches for meeting the challenge of climate change. For example, IISD participated in and helped coordinate the Manitoba Climate Change Task Force. The Task Force made specific recommendations regarding how the provincial government could act to take advantage of the opportunities resulting from the growing green economy and reduce the potential negative consequences of climate change. Recommendations included in the final report of the Task Force were used by Manitoba when it developed its own climate change action plan in 2002.
