Sonya Havens

Sonya Havens

Research Chemist, IISD-ELA

Sonya Havens has worked as an aquatic ecologist for over 12 years. In addition to research, Sonya has devoted her time to developing and conducting educational outreach programs for students at the post-secondary, secondary and middle school levels. She has balanced her time working in the field collecting samples with collecting, analyzing and interpreting scientific data into reports, presentations and grant proposals.

Sonya’s research has appeared in several peer-reviewed journals, including Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, Journal of Agricultural Chemistry and Environment, Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, and Limnology and Oceanography.

Sonya is a recipient of the 2013–2015 NSERC Postdoctoral Visiting Fellowship in Canadian Government Laboratories. Her research has been affiliated with the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada. She began her work at the Experimental Lakes Area in 2011-2012 as a volunteer research assistant.
