The Global Subsidies Initiative has released the latest in its series of policy briefs, an analysis of the Global Fund's 'Affordable Medicines Facility - malaria', or AMFm, a program designed to make costly malaria treatments affordable across the world, at the same time as aiming to avoid the negative impacts often caused by subsidies.

The brief looks at the mechanics of the program in detail, explaining how its design makes it a contender for a 'best-practice subsidy'. The policy recommendations that derive from this analysis suggest that, if governments choose to use subsides, they should take into account analysis and research, involve stakeholder consultation, mitigate undesired secondary consequences of subsidization and monitor and evaluate performance.

The brief can be downloaded from the GSI's website.
