{"id":3262,"date":"2023-11-06T09:05:43","date_gmt":"2023-11-06T15:05:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cf.iisd.net\/ssi\/?p=3262"},"modified":"2023-12-04T11:11:12","modified_gmt":"2023-12-04T17:11:12","slug":"dialogue-producer-inclusion-sustainability-standard-governance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.iisd.org\/ssi\/events\/dialogue-producer-inclusion-sustainability-standard-governance\/","title":{"rendered":"Dialogue on Producer Inclusion in Voluntary Sustainability Standard Governance"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Agriculture and food systems support the livelihoods of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fao.org\/newsroom\/detail\/almost-half-the-world-s-population-lives-in-households-linked-to-agrifood-systems\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">almost half the world\u2019s population<\/a>, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iisd.org\/ssi\/publications\/standards-and-poverty-reduction\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">500 million smallholder farmers<\/a>. Many voluntary sustainability standards (VSSs) in the agricultural sector seek to improve the livelihoods of the people who produce our food and goods as part of their mandate. But to what degree do they include those they intend to help in the decisions that affect their lives?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">IISD recently published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iisd.org\/ssi\/publications\/producer-inclusion-sustainability-standard-governance\/\">a report<\/a> exploring the extent to which producers are included in the governance systems of six VSS-setting organizations (VSSSOs) in the agricultural sector.
