Sofia Baliño

Senior Manager, Communications & Engagement

Sofia Baliño is the Senior Manager, Communications & Engagement, for IISD, where she is responsible for creating content, advising on and developing communications and engagement strategies, and crafting Institute-wide campaigns. Previously, she served as the Communications and Editorial Manager for IISD's Economic Law and Policy program, where she managed a team of communications professionals in Switzerland and Canada and was the communications lead for the trade and investment workstreams.

Prior to joining IISD, Sofia spent several years as the senior editor and lead trade journalist for Bridges Weekly, the flagship trade news reporting service for the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development. She previously worked in communications for environmental non-profits in Washington, D.C., covering topics such as wetlands conservation and preservation, food and water safety, and sustainable fisheries. 

Sofia is based in Geneva, Switzerland, and is fully bilingual in English and Spanish. She has a working-level proficiency in French.
