Joachim Roth

Policy Analyst

Based in Paris, France, Joachim Roth is a Policy Analyst for IISD’s Energy team and the Global Subsidies Initiative. His recent work has focused on green recovery, natural gas alternatives in the Global South, engaging advocates on national oil company reform, environmental fiscal reform in Nordic countries, and fiscal transitions away from fossil fuels in BRICS countries. He has also provided research and communication support on just energy transitions for coal phase-out in emerging and developing economies. 

Throughout his career, Joachim has worked on projects for various organizations, such as the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, the European Climate Foundation, Environment and Climate Change Canada, the Government of Manitoba, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ), and the Nordic Council of Ministers. Before joining IISD, Joachim worked as a sustainability analyst at the Center for Development and Strategy, as a research intern at the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development, and as a project coordinator at LSE consulting.

He speaks English and French fluently.
