The withdrawal announcement by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.energycharter.org\/media\/news\/article\/written-notification-of-withdrawal-from-the-energy-charter-treaty-1\/?tx_news_pi1%5Bcontroller%5D=News&amp;tx_news_pi1%5Baction%5D=detail&amp;cHash=abcda61b6382609c6671e7e7a4045edd\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Slovenia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> followed on 26 February, and by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.energycharter.org\/media\/news\/article\/written-notification-of-withdrawal-from-the-energy-charter-treaty-2\/?cHash=74570b4786a1efdfdd44f475b7b8d1a0\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Portugal<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on 7 March. As Portugal operates as the ECT\u2019s depositary, the contracting parties will now have to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.energycharter.org\/fileadmin\/DocumentsMedia\/Withdrawal_notifications\/2024.02.01_-_Withdrawal_notification_Portugal.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">identify a new depositary<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Significantly, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/data.consilium.europa.eu\/doc\/document\/ST-7144-2024-INIT\/en\/pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Council of the <span class='tooltipsall tooltipsincontent classtoolTips117'>EU<\/span> adopted a decision to withdraw<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from the ECT on the same date, the withdrawal will now have to be confirmed by the European Parliament.
