The IFDA is one of the WTO joint statement initiatives and, if it is adopted, will become the second WTO agreement that explicitly regulates investment (the first is the 1995 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wto.org\/english\/tratop_e\/invest_e\/trims_e.htm\">TRIMS Agreement<\/a>). The IFDA\u2019s text aims to make sure that traditional investment governance issues, such as investment protection, investor\u2013state dispute settlement, and investment market access, are outside the scope of the agreement. This <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iisd.org\/itn\/en\/2023\/04\/02\/looking-for-sustainable-development-and-sustainable-investment-in-the-wto-draft-investment-facilitation-for-development-agreement\/#tabs-11\">recent <span class='tooltipsall tooltipsincontent classtoolTips60'>ITN<\/span> piece<\/a> analyzes the extent to which the agreement operationalizes the sustainable development imperatives.
