{"id":9252,"date":"2023-07-01T08:42:21","date_gmt":"2023-07-01T06:42:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cf.iisd.net\/itn\/?p=9252"},"modified":"2024-08-09T18:33:01","modified_gmt":"2024-08-09T16:33:01","slug":"india-sends-termination-notices-to-68-countries-with-a-request-to-renegotiate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.iisd.org\/itn\/2023\/07\/01\/india-sends-termination-notices-to-68-countries-with-a-request-to-renegotiate\/","title":{"rendered":"India sends termination notices to 68 countries with a request to renegotiate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In March 2023, it <a href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/news\/india\/india-asks-68-countries-to-renegotiate-bilateral-investment-pacts-rajya-sabha-told\/articleshow\/98708856.cms\">was reported<\/a> that the Government of India had sent out 68 notices of termination regarding its existing bilateral investment treaties (BITs).<\/p>\n<p>It is understood that the termination notices were accompanied by requests to renegotiate on the basis of the 2015 India Model <span class='tooltipsall tooltipsincontent classtoolTips63'>BIT<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The developments regarding the termination of the old stock of Indian BITs are a welcome development, signalling the country\u2019s readiness to tackle the issue of old-generation BITs.
