According to a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oecd.org\/daf\/inv\/investment-policy\/investment-treaties.htm\">OECD announcement<\/a>, the initiative is aimed at exploring \u201chow the investment treaties of tomorrow could help address these challenges and how to deal with existing agreements in a pragmatic way.\u201d The initiative will complement existing international reform efforts at <span class='tooltipsall tooltipsincontent classtoolTips7'>UNCTAD<\/span>, <span class='tooltipsall tooltipsincontent classtoolTips3'>UNCITRAL<\/span>, and the <span class='tooltipsall tooltipsincontent classtoolTips80'>WTO<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The Work Programme, which was first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oecd-ilibrary.org\/docserver\/946c3970-en.pdf?expires=1646730286&amp;id=id&amp;accname=guest&amp;checksum=2CCE8E0451AEA6137F69DB75DD3005BD\">sketched out<\/a> in a working paper in March 2021, is scheduled to last 2 years and will consist of two tracks. The first track is open for civil society organizations to participate and will focus on the role of investment treaties in addressing major challenges such as climate change. The second track\u2014which is restricted to participation from national governments\u2014will discuss specific substantive provisions of outdated treaties and possible avenues for reform.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the first track, the OECD has launched a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oecd.org\/investment\/investment-policy\/oecd-investment-treaties-climate-change-consultation.pdf\">public consultation<\/a> with a view to \u201cto helping government policy-makers respond to the climate crisis in their investment treaty policies.\u201d Government representatives will discuss the submissions received at the 7th annual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oecd.org\/investment\/conference-investment-treaties.htm\">OECD Investment Treaty Conference<\/a> on May 10, 2022.
