{"id":4144,"date":"2017-06-12T15:34:29","date_gmt":"2017-06-12T20:34:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/itn.mattrock.ca\/?p=4144"},"modified":"2024-08-09T18:27:48","modified_gmt":"2024-08-09T16:27:48","slug":"ecj-rules-that-european-union-singapore-fta-requires-ratification-by-eu-member-states","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.iisd.org\/itn\/2017\/06\/12\/ecj-rules-that-european-union-singapore-fta-requires-ratification-by-eu-member-states\/","title":{"rendered":"ECJ rules that European Union\u2013Singapore FTA requires ratification by EU member states"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The European Court of Justice (<span class='tooltipsall tooltipsincontent classtoolTips66'>ECJ<\/span>) published its <a href=\"http:\/\/curia.europa.eu\/juris\/document\/document.jsf?text=&amp;docid=190727&amp;pageIndex=0&amp;doclang=EN&amp;mode=req&amp;dir=&amp;occ=first&amp;part=1&amp;cid=415687\">Opinion 2\/15<\/a> on the European Union\u2013Singapore Free Trade Agreement (<span class='tooltipsall tooltipsincontent classtoolTips70'>FTA<\/span>) on May 16, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>It held that the treaty falls within exclusive <span class='tooltipsall tooltipsincontent classtoolTips117'>EU<\/span> competence, except for certain provisions that fall within a competence shared between the European Union and its member states.
