IISD To Host Trade and Sustainability Hub

Join us at this event, alongside the WTO Ministerial, as we work to chart a new path for the greatest challenges of our time.

The International Institute for Sustainable Development welcomes the news that the World Trade Organization’s Twelfth Ministerial Conference (MC12) will be held the week of November 29, 2021, in Geneva, Switzerland.

March 1, 2021

As we had originally been planning prior to the pandemic, we will be organizing our first-ever “Trade and Sustainability Hub” in parallel to the WTO Ministerial Conference.

This multi-day event will feature sessions on various key issues that lie at the nexus of trade and sustainable development. We hope it can generate new ideas, creative policy solutions, and a forward-looking approach to how trade and trade policy in the post-COVID era can support our collective efforts to achieve the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

We hope conditions will allow for the event to be held at least partially in person by November/December. We will ensure that the Hub has a strong virtual component so that session organizers and participants based abroad can also join us. Should public health and travel conditions require, we are prepared to adapt and hold the event entirely by virtual means. In both instances, all interested viewers will be able to watch all sessions live online.

We look forward to sharing more event details about our Hub closer to MC12, including the exact dates and times, venue, theme, and sub-themes. We will also launch a formal call for session proposals in the coming weeks, and we welcome interest from prospective event partners.

In the interim, we are excited to share the following call for expressions of interest for those who may wish to host/co-host sessions, become event partners, learn more, or otherwise collaborate with us. We hope to see you this December!
