YOU Can Help the World’s Freshwater Laboratory Reduce Its Carbon Footprint
Because tomorrow needs YOU, this Giving Tuesday
Like many remote communities in Canada, we rely heavily on diesel-generated power. Anyone who has ever visited IISD Experimental Lakes Area will remember the ubiquitous hum of the generator that has powered our ground-breaking freshwater research for over 50 years.
But we are building a new path forward.
For years, we have been transitioning to clean, renewable energy—such as solar—to fuel our research into threats to freshwater health around the world.
Ultimately, we are building a whole collection of solar panels (a solar array) not only to generate power for the site, but also to help educate our northwestern Ontario neighbours about the importance of solar energy.
This is where YOU come in.
When you donate this Giving Tuesday, you are directly helping the world’s freshwater laboratory reduce its carbon footprint by building up our solar array.
Oh, and our incredibly generous friends at Red River Co-op will be doubling every dollar you donate, up to $7,500.
And once we reach our target of $15,000, we will be celebrating with our first ever quiet hour of power next year, when we turn our generators off—a moment we will be sharing with all our generous donors.
